Malfunctioning Household Appliances

Household appliance leaks are one of the most common culprits to water damage in a home. We use them every day, it’s only natural that they suffer from some wear and tear.

Appliances to check:

AC Unit

People don’t usually check on their AC unit until it stops working. It’s usually best to check up on your air conditioner at least once every six months to ensure everything is working properly. If your AC unit does have a leak, odds are you won’t notice until it pools so much that it’s saturated everything in its vicinity.

Consider this, your AC unit is up in the attic. Could you imagine what would happen if water begins to pool for weeks without you noticing?

The sheer weight of it is going to cause your ceiling to fall. No joke, it happens.

Dishwasher

Your dishwasher is also another likely culprit. Dishwashers are run almost every day, this results in extreme wear and tear. Sometimes, the rubber seal on dishwashers can begin to look and sometimes, the drain or supply line can corrode and start a leak.

If you notice a puddle of water near your dishwasher after its been run, don’t ignore it, be sure to take a closer look.

Washing Machine

Another household appliance that’s used often. Same as the dishwasher, wear and tear can cause the rubber seals to start leaking along with supply lines and drain lines. If you notice water, don’t ignore it, but take a closer look.

Hot Water Heater

Due to the very nature of a hot water heater, it’s possible that your water heater will begin to leak. Water heaters have a limited lifespan as water can begin to corrode the metal that contains, it’s supply line and valves.

Refrigerator

Another household appliance that we use on a daily basis. It too can fail. A simple routine inspection can also check up on its supply and drain lines.

In Closing

All of these household appliances have supply lines, drain lines, and valves that can all fail. That’s why it’s imperative to consistently and frequently inspect these appliances to prevent any slow leaks from becoming a water damage disaster.

As an added tip, don’t run your dishwasher or washing machine while nobody is home, that way if something does happen, you’re there to deal with it.
